| 20 June 2009 - Team Austen Morris in the Basher's Cricket Tour of Nanjing |
|
This was Nanjing's first International Cricket Tournament. On the weekend of June 21st 2009 Team Austen Morris, aka “Jimmy's Bogan's Heroes,”played in a riveting Cricket Tournament put on by the historic Shanghai cricket team: The Bashers. With temperatures reaching 35 degrees and humidity at 76% the conditions were set for grueling two-day competition. While the cricket weekend fortunately escaped torrential rainfall, the heat was stifling.
On the bright side, the stalwart Bashers beer vendors brought enough grog to drown half of Nanjing. While imbibing at the kegs, event organizer Hamish Stevens lauded the cricketing action, but lamented the heat. For the second annual tour, we'll certainly move it up earlier in the season, when the weather is more pleasant. An amazing effort was put on by the team, overcoming some unforeseen injuries and adjusting for weather conditions. With hard work and dedication Austen Morris placed in the top 3 for the entire tournament. “It was a great two days of activities in Nanjing and the Cricket playing fans were thrilled to see all the companies involved, including Austen Morris.” – Team Captain Dellon Francis – Associate.
Fans and players alike enjoyed a great weekend in Nanjing. With friends, refreshments and some good old fashion competition, Austen Morris and the rest of the Basher's Cricket Tour thoroughly took pleasure in the fun filled event.
